Game 1 of the Sox season... Tokyo style

Tuned in with Gillian and Jen to watch the Sox kickoff defense of their championship. Basically the same time of day as a West Coast game watching from Boston. (We all still fell asleep though...)

So Matsuzaka: I've been open about predicting big things for him this year, certainly an upgrade in his ERA and WHIP. Similar strikeout ratio. Wins? No reason he can't win 20.

Last night? Wow, a shocking start. Let's be positive: Nerves, pitching in front of all of Japan, a long flight (although I don't really buy this excuse,) having a newborn baby in Boston... all realistic reasons for underperformance.

The good news is that despite having little "stuff", he stayed with it, battled, and somehow got through with only 2 runs allowed. But he was pretty poor, particularly in the first 3 innings. But got the big strikeout when needed.

Manny was Manny, Pedroia was trying to hit the ball to Kyoto (love watching his at bats), and the Ellsbury catch was quality.

1-0...
